Dr Ramon Oar BDSc
Owner, Dentist
Ramon was born in Ayr and attended St Francis Primary and Burdekin Catholic High Schools before moving to Brisbane for 5 years to complete a Bachelor of Dental Science degree at the University of Queensland. On graduating in 1993 he returned to the Burdekin to commence work at Pulvirenti & Holmes private dental practice in Queen Street, Ayr. The Practice has had some name changes over the years with Ramon and Todd commencing the “Oar & Horan” partnership in 2007. Outside of work Ramon is an avid soccer fan but enjoys any outdoor activity on the weekends. Ramon married Alison in 1996 and they were blessed with 3 children (ie a “full back seat”!) – Zachary, Aimee & Sophie. 2023 will be Ramon’s 30th year working at the Practice and, along with all the team at O&H, remains fully committed to helping people with their dental needs well into the future.
Dr Todd Horan BDSc
Owner, Dentist
Todd was born and bred in the Burdekin and achieved his qualifications from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Dental Science with Honors in 2002. He immediately returned to Ayr to commence his professional career as a general dentist. In 2007 Todd entered into partnership with Ramon Oar and Oar and Horan was born. Todd prides himself on offering gentle, comprehensive and professional dental care across all ages and dental concerns. Todd has a particular interest in treating patients with very worn teeth. He also enjoys using the latest technology to create confident smiles that patients can be proud to own. In his spare time Todd likes to play night soccer, play table bowls (he is a previous world champion!) and is often found fishing and crabbing the estuaries of the Burdekin.
Dr Sian Blakey BDSurg
Dentist
Sian grew up in the Burdekin and moved to Cairns to complete her studies. She graduated from James Cook University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery and started her dental career at Oar and Horan in 2017. Sian enjoys all aspects of general dentistry but has a special interest in helping nervous patients overcome their dental phobias and anxieties by providing pain free treatment with a calming and reassuring presence. She enjoys helping her patients feel confident in their smiles through restorative treatment and teeth whitening. Sian is proud Mama to Daisy, and fur babies Winnie and Truman.
Dr André Le Feuvre BDSc
Dentist
A Burdekin local, André spent his formative years in Giru before moving to Cairns to complete his dental studies. During this time he gained valuable experience working in Cairns, Townsville, and Central Western Queensland. Graduating in 2017, André worked in private practice until his move back to the Burdekin in 2023 with his lovely wife Rachael and their children.
André has a direct, no-nonsense approach to dental care and has cultivated a clinical philosophy centred on producing high quality workmanship with a long term outlook. He has a special interest in oral surgery.
Dr Nathan Barrett BDSurg
Dentist
Nathan was born and raised in Townsville, where he decided early on to become a dentist. He completed a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2016 at James Cook University, where he met his wife, Dr Sian. He followed his passion for public healthcare and began working with the Townsville Hospital and Health Service. He was appointed to the Ayr Hospital as Senior Dental Officer for several years until making the move to Oar and Horan in 2022. Nathan developed a keen interest in emergency dental care, oral surgery and managing patient anxiety. Nathan also has a passion for teaching and currently supervises final year dental students at JCU. He enjoys gardening in his spare time and is the Vice President of the Lower Burdekin Landcare Association, but his main loves are his daughter, Daisy, and golden retrievers, Winnie and Truman.
Rebecca Horan B.App.H.Sc(Oral)
Hygienist
Rebecca graduated from the University of Queensland in 2001 with a Bachelor of Applied Health Science (Oral Health) and started her professional career at the surgery one week later and has never left. Bec married her high school sweetheart (and her boss!!) and is the proud Mama of three children. Having previously worked as a school Chaplain, Bec especially loves working with children and building relationships with her patients, helping them to feel comfortable in the dental chair. Over the last 20 years Bec has seen the practice grow, evolve and continue to offer exceptional dental care to her fellow Burdekin residents and is immensely proud of her O&H team.
Gaynor Ewens Assoc Dip
Hygienist
Gaynor began her dental career in 1982 as a dental assistant. With continuing education she graduated in 1989 as a Dental Hygienist in Adelaide, earning the inaugural Clinical Excellence Award. Gaynor’s main focus is in aiding each individual to improve their oral health and prevent dental disease through gentle therapy and home care instruction. Her special interest is in safe and effective tooth whitening. In her spare time she enjoys walking and training her dog as well as sewing, knitting and crocheting. Gaynor is grateful to be a part of the fabulous Oar and Horan team and welcomes you to visit.
Heather de Abreu Ass Sc Dent Hyg
Hygienist
Heather is our American hygienist. She graduated with an Associate of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene from Normandale Community College in 2001. This was back in Minnesota where Heather is originally from. In January of 2008 Heather moved here to Australia continuing to practise dental hygiene first in Victoria for 12 years before moving to Ayr to join us during COVID in 2020. She has two children and loves raising them here in the Burdekin. She is very involved with several clubs as they do a lot of sport. Heather is passionate about trying to give everyone a great and comfortable experience in the dental chair. Also prevention starting at a young age is also of top priority to Heather.
