Extractions.

At Oar and Horan we strive to have our patients keep their teeth for as long as possible. Unfortunately, sometimes they need to be removed. We routinely do tooth extractions, including some wisdom teeth extractions. However, sometimes a tooth may be difficult to remove or extracting the tooth may cause damage to the surrounding nerves and sinuses, so we will refer you to a dental surgeon or oral and maxillofacial surgeon who can complete the procedure safely.

Wisdom Teeth.

The third adult molar teeth are commonly called ‘wisdom teeth’. These are usually the last teeth to appear in the mouth, generally around the age of 18-25 years. Most people will have four wisdom teeth, but they may never or only partially appear in the mouth. Some people will not develop wisdom teeth at all or they may only have one, two or three.

Sometimes there isn’t enough space for the wisdom teeth to erupt properly and they can become impacted or wedged. Impacted wisdom teeth are not necessarily a problem unless they are causing symptoms or your dentist can see they will cause issues with the surrounding teeth in the future. Not all wisdom teeth will need to be removed, speak with your dentist if you are concerned about your wisdom teeth.
